What’s behind our specs headers – Gradeability

The Gradeability figure we provide in PS Plant Specs tables relates to a machine’s transmission (gearbox) capabilities.
It’s the maximum uphill gradient a machine can manage and is expressed as percentage.
In the context of slopes or gradients, the Gradeability percentage represents the steepness of a slope, expressed as the vertical rise (or drop) for every 100 units of horizontal distance.
For example, a 10% grade means that for every metres of horizontal distance, the slope rises (or falls) 10 metres vertically.
Like all our specs, Gradeability percentages are supplied by the manufacturer or agent, and are quoted for excavators, most roller types and directional drill rigs.
