Versatile Hitachi excavator launched in US at last

Hitachi Construction Machinery has introduced the ZX210LC-7 excavator in the North American market. It has been in the manufacturer’s Australian model mix since 2022. See the full specs here.

The 22,615-kilogram machine is designed for maximum performance in the most demanding applications, according to Hitachi.

With a maximum digging depth of 6.67m and a bucket breakout force of 158 kilonewtons, the ZX210LC-7 is engineered to perform a variety of tasks, including earthmoving, materials handling, demolition, and underground excavation.

“The ZX210LC-7 designers focused on fine-tuning and enhancing the core capabilities of the ZAXIS-7 excavators to maximise efficiency so you get more for less,” said Patrick Baker, product manager at Hitachi Construction Machinery Americas.

The excavator features the next-generation TRIAS III hydraulic system, which reduces fuel consumption while optimising performance, the company says.

The three-pump system is said to provide a quick response to all control inputs while minimising hydraulic losses.

A new arm roll-in metering control valve allows hydraulic pump power to be reduced when the arm is operated with a low load.

During digging, the roll-in metering control valve decreases hydraulic pressure loss, which reduces the pump power needed, thus improving fuel efficiency.

The ZX210LC-7 also offers a range of customisable settings to enhance versatility.

Operators can adjust the attachment/arm priority on the monitor to match the attachment or their preferences.

Whether prioritising the speed of the attachment or the arm during simultaneous operations, or adjusting boom raise priority, the machine can be tailored to a wide range of tasks, from truck loading to heavy digging.

Powered by a Isuzu engine, the ZX210LC-7 delivers 122 kilowatts (164 horsepower).

The machine also features work modes that match power output to job site conditions and an auto idle system with automatic shutdown to conserve fuel.

The ZX210LC-7’s cab was designed for operator comfort and reduced fatigue.

The larger space offers increased head clearance, and the one-touch adjustable air suspension seat moves in sync with the console.

Noise reduction is achieved by thicker rear glass, and improved airtightness keeps dust out, even when the air conditioner is in use.

To minimise vibrations while travelling, the cab is mounted on four fluid-filled elastic mounts.

An anti-glare LCD monitor ensures visibility in bright conditions and controls the Bluetooth radio, allowing operators to listen to music and make hands-free calls.

LED lights provide long-lasting illumination in challenging conditions.

Low-effort pilot controls reduce operator strain, and frequently used switches are located on the right side for easy access.

The cab’s panoramic design promotes safety and comfort, further enhanced by Hitachi’s Aerial Angle peripheral vision camera system.

This system offers a 270-degree bird’s-eye view of the machine’s surroundings, with selectable views on the monitor. A rear-view camera allows the operator to see the area directly behind the machine.

The undercarriage features an anti-mud-compaction lower roller design to prevent mud from damaging the oil seals.

Both the upper and lower rollers include improved idler sealing, and a track undercover protects the joint from potential damage.

The machine’s durability is enhanced with a strengthened boom end and foot, where bushings are installed in the brackets for added resilience.

Maintenance tracking is simplified with the multifunctional monitor, which displays preset maintenance intervals every time the key is turned on.

Operators can check engine oil and coolant levels directly from the seat, while design enhancements protect critical components from environmental damage.
