Three new Volvo excavators with ‘human-machine’ interface

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) has launched a new range of excavators.

The manufacturer says that this modern lineup enhances productivity, fuel efficiency, and total cost of ownership while also setting new standards in operator comfort and technological innovation.

The latest models, including the EC230, EC400, and EC500, have undergone significant redesigns to offer more spacious and ergonomic operator environments.

The design improvements are aimed at maximising operational efficiency.

The models are described as having a “new human-machine interface”, which gives the excavators higher functionality.

Kurt Deleu, Head of Product Management Excavators at Volvo CE, said, “We have always been proud to lead the market with our innovative line of excavators. With this new range, we are helping our customers get even more out of their machines.”

The machines were first introduced to the European and Turkish markets at Volvo Days 2024, held in Eskilstuna, Sweden.

At the launch the technologically advanced features of the EC500, EC400, and EC230 crawler excavators were on show.

The new operator cabins are designed for comfort and convenience. They feature increased space, a coolbox and USB / Bluetooth connectivity for mobile devices and music.

Keyless engine start and always-on camera lead to a safer and more productive working day, Volvo CE says.

Better sealing reduces dust ingress, while upgraded heating, ventilation, and air conditioning systems improve air circulation.

Noise levels are lower, and built-in sunscreens enhance comfort.

A new electro-hydraulic system uses sensors to monitor operator movements, commanding the main control valve for smooth, precise operation.

This system, combined with features like a smart cooling system, engine-speed regulation, and engine pump optimisation, significantly improve fuel efficiency and lowers the cost of ownership.

Volvo CE says their new excavators are engineered for precision and speed, with reduced operator fatigue thanks to the electro-hydraulic system and automated boom and bucket movements.

Advanced electric control joysticks and fully electric travel pedals offer rapid response times, while features like swing and tiltrotator control ensure precise operations with minimal input.

Operators can pre-set limits on the boom’s depth, height, and swing to avoid hazards such as power lines and pipes.

Volvo Smart View with Obstacle Classification provides 360° visibility and alerts operators to nearby objects or people using deep learning technology.

The new excavators also boast superior serviceability, with extended service intervals of 1,000 hours for engine oil, filters, and fuel changes.

Daily maintenance is simplified with ground-level access, a fully openable engine hood, and features like a swing-out condenser for easier inspections.

Environmental considerations are addressed with a convenient shut-off valve to prevent fuel leakage and simpler fluid draining.
