PS Plant Specs Online has uploaded the specs for Astec’s RX-405, a compact cold planer (profiler) which the maker says is designed to deliver high productivity and versatility for milling contractors. 

Powered by a 430 hp Stage V engine, this lightweight machine is built to handle a variety of applications. 

The RX-405‘s compact size and flexibility make it a good choice for smaller-scale projects, such as shoulder removal, trenching, parking lots, joint repair and tandem milling.

The RX-405‘s center-mounted, belt-driven cutter drum enhances maneuverability and stability, providing excellent balance and traction. 

Astec says that operator comfort and ease of use has been prioritised in the RX-405. 

The machine features ergonomic controls, including intuitive joysticks for separate operation of the propel and conveyor functions. 

A rearview camera is integrated into the operator’s station, automatically displaying when the machine is in reverse and accessible at any time for additional safety and precision.

The machine is equipped with sensors and cameras that stop the unit if an object or person is detected behind it while reversing. 

The RX-405 includes a wide-opening rear engine service door and a hinged side access door for quick inspection and maintenance of the cutter drum. 

The drum indexer system, controlled by a magnetic-based pendant, allows for smooth rotation during maintenance, making drum changes and tooth replacements easier and safer.

The RX-405 features a vibration-absorbing platform, durable center bearings, and self-cleaning pulleys, all designed to minimise wear and enhance operator comfort. 

Telematics and automated control systems

The RX-405 is equipped with Astec’s telematics system, offering real-time monitoring of machine performance to keep operating costs low. 

Additionally, the machine features the Automated Control of Elevation (ACE) system, which makes elevation adjustments with a combination of grade and slope sensors. 

This system improves precision, reduces operator effort, and keeps the entire crew informed of critical measurements through easy-to-read graphic displays.
