PS Spec Check: Bobcat’s long-serving and rugged E35

Each Monday plantspecs.online posts a specs review of a top selling mini excavator model. The full list of Australia’s sales leaders is in this article on our website. Today it’s the Bobcat E35.

When it comes to compact excavators that can handle the rugged demands of Australian worksites, the Bobcat E35 stands out as a reliable and efficient performer.

First introduced in 2010, this 3.4-tonne machine packs a punch with its sturdy build, impressive digging capabilities, and fuel-efficient Kubota engine—making it a favourite among tradies and contractors.

At the heart of the E35 is a Kubota D1803 diesel engine, delivering 24.8 horsepower (18.5 kW) at 2400 rpm.

With three cylinders and a piston pump system, this excavator balances power with efficiency, ensuring smooth operation whether you’re digging trenches, lifting materials, or working in tight urban spaces.

The hydraulic system runs at a 206-bar relief valve pressure, with a main pump flow of 110.4 litres per minute, providing strong breakout forces for demanding tasks.

With a maximum dig depth of 3.34 metres and a reach of 5.23 metres at ground level, it’s well-suited for a variety of earthmoving jobs.

The bucket breakout force ensures efficient digging, while the arm breakout force provides the strength needed to handle tough materials.

Whether you’re working on a residential site or a rural property, this machine delivers precision and power.

One of the biggest advantages of the E35 is its compact design, making it ideal for confined spaces.

With a transport length of just 4.83 metres and a width of 1.75 metres, it can easily navigate through narrow access points.

The zero tail-swing radius (only 90 mm) means you can work close to walls and obstacles without worrying about damaging surroundings.

Plus, with a ground clearance of 537 mm and 320 mm track pads, it maintains stability on uneven terrain.

Despite its small size, the E35 moves with ease, reaching a travel speed of 2.6 km/h and handling 30% gradeability—perfect for sloping job sites.

The operating weight of 3,429 kg ensures it remains stable while lifting or digging, and the standard bucket width (though exact capacity varies) provides versatility for different materials.

The spare spool for attachments allows for quick integration of hydraulic tools like breakers or augers, while the piston pump system ensures responsive control.

The machine’s fuel efficiency and durable undercarriage make it a cost-effective choice for long-term use.
