New short radius excavators from Kobelco for urban and residential projects

Kobelco Construction Machinery Australia has announced the addition of two new Tier 3 models to its short radius range.

They are specifically designed for urban and residential job sites.

The maker says the new SK225SR-7 and SK235SR-7 models promise powerful performance, precise controllability, and stability, all while being equipped with Tier 3 engines.

Kobelco began the short radius concept in 1996 and now has the largest SR range in the market, with models spanning from 1 tonne (SK008) to 38 tonnes (SK380SRLC).

These SR machines are valued for their smaller working footprint, allowing them to navigate tighter spaces and operate efficiently on single lanes of highways without disrupting traffic, ideal for roadworks and utility maintenance.

The SK225SR-7 and SK235SR-7 feature powerful Tier 3 engines that deliver a 127 kW output and 22% higher torque than previous models.

The absence of a Diesel Particulate Filter in these engines results in lower operational costs and reduced maintenance downtime.

Weighing in at 23.3 tonnes and 25 tonnes respectively, these machines offer precise operation with smooth hydraulics and exceptional lifting capacity, thanks to optional heavy counterweights and a balanced chassis layout.

The reinforced arm and bucket cylinders enhance digging power and durability, with the arm’s plate thickness increased by 25% and the bucket cylinder’s rod side pin diameter enlarged from 80 to 85 mm.

The SK225SR-7 and SK235SR-7 feature improved cabin design, ergonomics, and safety.

Both are equipped with Kobelco-branded Grammer air suspension seats that move with the armrests and hydraulic controls to reduce operator fatigue and provide shock absorption.

Additional cabin features include a DAB+ radio, Bluetooth, hands-free telephone, and a 10-inch color screen controlled by a jog dial.

This screen displays operating history, maintenance cycles, fuel and water temperature gauges, and hydraulic oil-flow adjustments.

To improve visibility, especially during the winter months, the new models are fitted with two bright LED work lights.

Mark Johnson, General Manager of Product & Distribution at Kobelco Australia, commented on the new models: “The increased demand for urban infrastructure, utilities, and roadbuilding has driven the need for compact machinery.”

“The new SK225SR-7 and SK235SR-7 offer the same powerful performance and lifting capacity as our mid-weight conventional machines but with a smaller working footprint of just 4.05m and 3.68m, respectively.

“These new SR-7 models build on the legacy of the legendary -2 series machines with upgraded performance, productivity, and comfort, all while maintaining Tier 3 engines without DPF or AdBlue, resulting in lower operational and maintenance costs.”
