Mecalac has launched the 12MTX “wheeled excavator loader” in North America. Its makers call it a multifunctional machine that combines the capabilities of a compact excavator, loader and telehandler.
It has been designed for diverse industries covering construction, roadbuilding, landscaping, utilities, tunneling, mining, and forestry/tree care.
The 12MTX aims to streamline jobsite operations by reducing the need for multiple items of equipment.
It can also function as a tool carrier, capable of handling high-flow hydraulic attachments like asphalt planers and flail mowers.
“Anyone who subscribes to the philosophy of ‘do more with less’ or is simply forced to do more with less will appreciate the 12MTX,” said Peter Bigwood, general manager for Mecalac North America.
“It’s a compact machine that can work in a tight envelope and do virtually anything you’d expect from the typical jobsite mainstays – and do it all well. At a time when costs are high and labor is hard to come by, the 12MTX eliminates the need for a big crew, and the need to buy, maintain and haul numerous pieces of equipment.”
The machine features a three-piece, variable angle, side-mounted boom, providing good compactness and range of motion.
This boom can extend nearly straight in multiple directions or fold back for higher lifting capability and compactness, making it ideal for working near structures or roadways where space is limited.
This is useful for tasks like laying pipes, installing footpaths, mowing nature strips, or performing utility maintenance.
The machine’s design enhances its working envelope, reducing the need for repositioning.
For instance, when digging a trench, the 12MTX can continue digging without moving, even if the bucket goes under the machine.
A selector switch allows users to change between park, excavator, loader, and travel modes.
Capable of lifting up to four tons, the 12MTX boasts an engine positioned in the rear, acting as a counterweight for enhanced maneuverability.
Its articulated undercarriage, four-wheel drive, and five tyre options provide stability and precision across different terrains.
The machine’s high-flow hydraulics support a wide range of attachments, including loader buckets, mowers, compactors and planers.
An automatically unfolding step ensures safe entry and exit from the cab, while the operating cab offers excellent visibility and minimal blind spots.
The boom’s left-side position provides clear sight lines, even when dumping from the maximum height.
Optional features like a heated pneumatic seat, heating, and air conditioning further enhance operator comfort.
