At last month’s MINExpo in Las Vegas, Komatsu introduced the PC4000-11E hydraulic mining excavator, an electrically-powered machine that combines the powerful digging capabilities of high-performance diesel machines, but with a significantly-reduced carbon footprint.
Built to withstand the toughest mining environments, Komatsu says the PC4000-11E features durable, robust components designed for reliable performance in the harshest conditions and the electric drive system of the PC4000-11E is capable of reducing emissions by up to 95%.
When used in conjunction with the Komatsu Trolley Truck Assist System, the electrification of mining operations can be greatly increased, promoting more sustainable production.
This shift to electric power not only reduces emissions but also lowers operating costs by eliminating the need for diesel fuel.
The manufacturer states that the PC4000-11E can provide up to 50% savings in total cost of ownership compared to conventional Tier 4 diesel-powered excavators.
A feature of the PC4000-11E is its fully automatic cable drum, which simplifies operations in backhoe configuration.
The automatic winding system saves time by making maneuvering in mining pits easier.
Additionally, the simplified electric control system allows for quicker troubleshooting and maintenance, enhancing the overall availability of the machine. It also assists operators in achieving the highest safety standards.
“MINExpo is the perfect platform for us to connect with our global customers and those looking to improve their mining operations,” said Peter Buhles, Vice President Sales and Service, Komatsu Germany – Mining Division.
“We’re excited to showcase the PC4000-11E and other innovative solutions that align with our goal of helping our customers achieve more sustainable and efficient mining operations.”
