Electric artic dumpers unveiled by Volvo at Bauma equipment trade fair

In a bold leap forward for sustainable construction and mining, Volvo Construction Equipment has unveiled the A30 Electric and A40 Electric—claiming then to be the world’s first battery-electric articulated haulers in their size class. 

As the original innovator of the articulated hauler, Volvo CE continues its legacy by leading the charge towards zero-emission heavy machinery and will soon offer Australian operators a powerful, eco-friendly alternative, without compromising performance.

Announced at Bauma 2025, the A30 Electric (29-tonne payload) and A40 Electric (39-tonne payload) are set to redefine off-road hauling in quarries, mines and construction sites. 

These machines combine zero tailpipe emissions with the rugged reliability Volvo haulers are known for, making them ideal for operations where reducing environmental impact is a priority—such as tunnelling, underground mining and urban construction.

Scheduled for limited release in Europe from 2026, these electric haulers represent Volvo CE’s commitment to decarbonising the industry, with clear potential for expansion into the Australian market as demand grows.

Equipped with high-capacity lithium-ion batteries, the A30 Electric delivers 4–4.5 hours of runtime under typical conditions, extending up to seven hours in optimal scenarios. 

For high-intensity operations, fast DC charging (350 kW) can replenish the battery from 20% to 80% in just an hour, minimising downtime.

When powered by renewable energy, the A30 Electric cuts lifecycle CO₂ emissions by 84% compared to diesel models—a game-changer for companies striving to meet net-zero targets.
