Caterpillar has introduced the new Cat 973 crawler loader, a machine designed to work in a variety of tough to slick ground conditions.
This track loader, with 275 hp (205 kW) and an operating weight of 29,892 kg, is claimed to offer up to 10% better fuel efficiency, enhanced productivity and has improved cab features.
The 973 replaces the 973K model worldwide and complements the existing Cat crawler loader lineup, which includes the 953 (160 hp/119 kW) and 963 (202 hp/151 kW) models.
Despite being such a large crawler loader, the Cat 973 maintains agility and ease of operation, says the manufacturer.
The updated cab includes a suspension seat and adjustable armrests and controls.
An intuitive 254 mm touchscreen dash display, featuring a standard High Definition rear view camera, simplifies operation.
The Slope Indicate feature displays machine mainfall and cross slope. Operators can choose between joystick or V-lever and pedal steering for transmission controls, and either joystick or 2-lever implement controls.
The joystick option is particularly user-friendly for those familiar with skidsteers or compact track loaders, CAT says.
Operators can set implement response – fine, normal, or coarse – to match their preference or application.
Repetitive functions such as lift, lower, rack, dump and float can be preset, making tasks like truck loading more efficient.
The 973 also boasts smoother implement and steering response, along with improved steering performance for better controllability.
Powered by a Cat C9.3B engine, the 973 crawler loader features an auto mode that adapts engine speed to the load, reducing fuel consumption by up to 10%.
For lighter duty applications, eco mode lowers engine speed further, while power mode maintains high engine speed for readily available power.
The 973 offers purpose-built configurations for specific applications. The Low Ground Pressure , Waste Handling/Demolition, and Ship Hold arrangements come factory-equipped with specialised undercarriage, guarding, and other features designed for challenging tasks.
The 973 Steel Mill package includes a specialised cab, insulated steel fuel tank, high-temperature undercarriage, and insulation throughout the machine, making it ideal for handling slag.
