Caterpillar has introduced eight new “Next Generation” Skidsteers (SSLs) and compact tracked loaders (CTLs), all boasting productivity and operator experience advances, it says.
They are the Cat 250, 260, 270 and 270 XE SSLs, along with the 275, 275 XE, 285 and 285 XE CTLs.
Powered by Cat C2.8T and C3.6TA engines, these models meet US EPA Tier 4 Final and EU Stage V emissions standards while delivering more horsepower over a wider RPM range.
The 250 and 260 models offer a 13% increase in torque, while the 270, 275, and 285 offer up to 50% more torque, significantly improving performance during demanding operations.
The vertical-lift design on all models enables higher lift heights and increased breakout forces.
The Cat 250 features a lift height of 3,150mm – an increase of 76mm compared to its predecessor, the 242D3 – and benefits from a 36% improvement in tilt and a 26% increase in lift breakout forces.
The Cat 260 achieves a lift height of 3,353mm, with a 193mm increase over the 262D3, delivering a 27% improvement in tilt force and a 17% higher rated operating capacity.
The 270 and 270 XE models provide a lift height of 3,391mm, while the Cat 285 and 285 XE reach 3,708mm, making them ideal for handling larger loads in challenging environments.
All next generation models feature a closed-centre auxiliary hydraulic system, ensuring optimal performance for attachments.
Hydraulic pressure has increased to 24,130 kPa, with “High Flow ready” configurations available to activate higher flow rates via software-enabled controls.
For even greater hydraulic performance, the High Flow XPS option raises system pressure to 28,000 kPa, while the High Flow XE option pushes pressure to 31,000 kPa with flow rates reaching up to 150 l/min in the 270 XE, 275 XE, and 285 XE models.
The redesigned cab offers 22% more space and 26% additional footroom compared to previous models.
With expanded hip and shoulder room, increased joystick spacing, and a higher ceiling, the new cab design accommodates operators of all sizes.
The new CTL models feature an equaliser bar undercarriage, combining the stability benefits of rigid-style undercarriages with the flexibility of oscillating designs.
This hybrid system improves traction on uneven terrain while supporting heavier attachments such as mulchers and dozer blades.
Trevor Chase, Caterpillar’s senior product consultant, highlighted the significance of these new additions: “Our next generation skidsteer and compact track loaders provide customers with the flexibility and performance needed for a variety of tasks.
“With increased power, higher lift heights, and enhanced hydraulic systems, these machines set a new benchmark for productivity.”
