Caterpillar has unveiled the Cat 903 compact wheel loader, an evolution of the popular Cat 903D, designed to make work easier and more productive. 

Powered by a Cat C1.7 engine, the new model boasts a 17% increase in horsepower over its predecessor. 

This enhanced power translates into improved performance for pushing, operating on grades, and managing simultaneous drive, steer, and lift functions.

Joel Grimes, a Caterpillar compact loader market professional, emphasised the machine’s advancements, and said, “The 903 offers all the features – improved comfort, service access, and safety – that made the 903D a preferred compact wheel loader.”

“The increased power, improved coupler design, and enhanced multifunction hydraulic performance raise the bar for productivity in this class size.”

The 903 is designed to keep operators comfortable and productive throughout the day. 

The workstation features spacious legroom, ergonomic pedal placement, and easy entry and exit. 

Optional speed-sensitive ride control enhances comfort during long shifts. 

The multifunction joystick offers intuitive fingertip control of the standard third-function hydraulic system. 

Operators benefit from excellent rear and corner visibility, thanks to minimal engine overhang, which is particularly useful in confined spaces.

Optional features like the hydraulic skidsteer loader coupler enable faster, more efficient work tool changes. 

The coupler’s viewing window also provides clear visibility of fork tips when using compact wheel loader-style forks.

The auxiliary hydraulic system delivers up to 54.9 l/min at 3,336 psi (230 bar), offering increased power for hydraulic work tools such as power box rakes and grapple buckets. 

Optional front and rear differential locks provide maximum traction on slick surfaces, while engine and ground speed control optimise performance when working with hydromechanical tools like brooms. 

Ease of maintenance is a key feature of the Cat 903. 

A fully opening rear hood provides easy access to the engine compartment, including side-by-side coolers and a transparent fuel/water separator. 

Optional features like an engine air precleaner and radiator screen ensure reliable performance in high-debris environments.
