Biodiesel compatibility and emissions platforms
We have expanded the function of our specs column formerly labeled ‘Biodiesel compatibility’ (it applies to every machine that has an engine or motor). That column now covers:
For diesel/petrol engines: details of which emissions platforms (covering only Tier 3 and 4f/Stage IV and V) a particular engine complies with.
We use the following abbreviations (which we will reference at the bottom of each page in the print edition and in notes for Onlline specs):
Tier 3: T3
Tier 4 final: T4f
Tier 5: T5
Stage IV: S-IV
Stage V:S-V
As an example, a machine capable of taking up to 10% biodiesel and is Tier 4 Final/Stage IV compliant would be listed as: B10/T4f/S-IV
Please note: only list models/options that are Tier 3-5/Stage IV-V compliant.
For Electric-powered machines: From 2025, PS Plant Specs Australia will include specifications for electric earthmoving and construction machines, which are being launched in greater numbers every year.
A key priority has been to incorporate electric-powered machine specs into our existing tables format so that users can compare ‘like with like’
electric vs internal combustion power options when making purchasing, leasing and rental decisions.
In the illustration below, excavators are used as an example to shows how this works in our Excel speadsheet format. We will apply the same principles to all types of powered earthmoving/construction/mining equipment listed in PS Plant Specs Australia.
Each set of specs for relevant machines will include five columns relating to powertrain specs that will do “double duty”; diesel-powered machines will continue to have specs relevant to them, while electric-powered machines will use the same columns for electric-based power.
This solution lets us retain the ability for users to continue comparing “like with like”, while still having the same number of spec headings for both diesel-power and electric-power machines.
The Excel spreadsheet below includes some “EXAMPLE” brand machines, covering both diesel and electric power. You’ll note that we’ve added in “alternative” headings for the powertrain sections only; all other headings are identical, regardless of power source.
SAE-rated values, please
We ask specs suppliers to use SAE-rated values for key specifications, including engine power, bucket/body capacities, and bucket/arm/crowd breakout forces. Please ensure that your new and existing specs reflect these.
Completing your return
In updating this information, in order to ensure that it is as accurate as possible, and to ensure your company gets maximum value from your listings, could you please follow the guidelines below.
- As you complete each spec listing – whether it’s existing listings with no changes, existing listings with changes and corrections, or new entries – please change the type colour (NOT the background colour) to RED. That indicates to us that you have checked it, and assists in the auditing process. If you do not mark returned spec forms in RED, we will have to call you to double check that all the specs are correct.
• AN EXCEPTION TO THE ABOVE: If you have no changes, you can simply email us back with a message to the effect that there are NO CHANGES to your specs listings.
• Please DO NOT add extra spec fields that you would like to see added to particular machine types, or amend the existing specs fields. These specs have been fine-tuned over many years, plus there is no space for additional fields. If you feel strongly that there is a need for a revision to some of the specs we request, please do not hesitate to get in touch with us to discuss these.
NEW MODELS: When you are adding NEW models, please write the word “NEW” in the left-hand most column; as in previous editions, we identify newly released machines as a service to readers and will flag these on our website. It also helps ensure your latest product releases stand out.
• Please DO NOT “mix and match” specs to produce machines that look good on paper, but are not workable. An example would be listing excavator breakout forces with a short dipper stick, and dig depths with a long stick. Please put in specs for a “standard” machine, with standard bucket, dipperstick, boom, etc — although you are quite welcome to list variations, such as a bulk excavation version, a long-reach version, a high-lift version, etc.
